2012 Toyota Celica

The 2012 Toyota Celica is a low-cost sports car that is being working on jointly by Subaru and Toyota. The Toyota version is not confirmed for the U.S. market, but it is expected by industry experts to make its debut in 2012 for under $20,000.

The Celica brand was dropped by Toyota in 2005. When the vehicle returns, it will be a rear-wheel drive vehicle with a Subaru four cylinder engine. It will be a welcomed addition to the Toyota line-up which has been criticized for not containing any interesting, youthful cars.

Toyota already has ties with Subaru’s parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries. Toyota holds a 8.7% stake in the company, and Subaru already builds Camry’s for Toyota at its Lafayette, Indiana facility. It is rumored that Toyota is planning to double its stake in Fuji so that Toyota can gain access to Subaru’s engine and all-wheel drive technology.

The 2012 Toyota Celica is rumored to be a sloped-roof hatchback. It will probably be set-up as a four-passenger vehicle with a tight rear seat package. It is not clear which engine will be used for the new Celica. Some reports suggest the 1.5L Impreza engine will be used, while others think the Celica will come with a larger 2.0L or 2.5L engine. Subaru’s 2.5L engine is already certified to U.S. emissions requirements, so this second rumor does have some weight to it.

It is expected that no matter which base engine does finally go into the Celica that it will deliver 170 to 175 horsepower. Also, the entire vehicle will have a weight target of 2,425 pounds to help improve the engine’s performance and keep the fuel usage down. The base engine will likely be coupled with a six-speed manual and an optional automatic transmission. There is also talk of a premium turbocharged engine in the plans that will deliver 300 horsepower.

The 2012 Toyota Celica is expected to come standard with antilock brakes, side airbags, and air conditioning.

Competition in the sporty but affordable segment is likely to be fierce in the 2012 time frame. The Honda Civic, Mazda 3, and BMW Mini are all likely to be direct competitors for the 2012 Toyota Celica. One thing is for certain, though. If this Subaru-Toyota venture does go into production, it will provide a nice addition to Toyota’s U.S. line-up.

2012 Toyota Celica Release Date: The production of the car is most likely to start in late 2011. The car is most likely to be launched first in Japan then US. The US versions for 2012 Toyota Celica is likely to arrive early in 2012.

2012 Toyota Celica Prices: The prices for 2012 model of Toyota Celica is most likely to be around $17,000 – $20,000.

  1. This is so awesome I love toyota and I can’t wait to get my hands on one

  2. For sure, this car will be a world changing vehicle … for the better.

  3. I’m so excited. I owned a 2005 Celica, the last year before taking them off the market. My car was brand new. Unfortunately after putting only 4000 miles on it, it was hit by a jeep while I was sitting in it. I had it repaired, but decided not to keep it.To this day I regret i traded it. In place of it I got a Corolla, and hated it, then traded it for a Scion. So happy! I’m saving to have a 3,000.00 down payment.

  4. if i could pick anything in the world to have, it would be this. i absolutely love celicas,

  5. They already have me sold. I love Toyota, and its about time they bring back the sporty-er cars. I cant wait till it comes out.

  6. I’ve been a Toyota fan since I discovered the Mark IV Supra and my first Toyota is a ‘94 Celica. When they released the 7th generation Celica, I wasn’t pleased with the direction they took in styling, but at least they had a reliable, attractive, and inexpensive sport car. After 2005 I lost all interest in Toyota since the sportiest car they offered was the Solara, and that was only available with an automatic transmission, and the Corolla S didn’t have the style to attract the traditional Toyota sport car fans. Now my faith in Toyota sports is renewed with the announced production of the 2012 Celica. Thank you Toyota for realizing my dream, as I’m sure so many Celica, Supra, and MR2 fans have been waiting for.

  7. I can’t wait!!! I had a 2003 Celica that I absolutely loved, and when I had to replace it, there were no options for me. It was either a Solara or the Zion. I decided to just forget it. I ended up buying my mother’s ‘84 Supra, which STILL runs great. So I guess I’ll be replacing that with the new 2013 Celiva

  8. actually i heard it has 400 horsepower with a 3.5L and cost around 17-18 grand

  9. Bring back the style from 1992 Toyota Cilica

  10. Keep me posted on this great news. Still drive a 1997 Celica which is still running great and looks great! Can’t wait for the new 2012 model!

  11. I have a 94 celica. i love her with all my heart but she is coming to the end of her years. I cant wait for the 2012!!!!!!!!!

  12. I drive a 2000 Toyota Celica GTS. Had motor replaced in 2010 after 315,000 miles. I got 35 mpg. the week it quit running and still get 30-32 on this motor. The original motor was a GT. I LOVE my car-bought one just like mine – a GTS for my grandson. He is in College and drives it everyday. My car has been involved in 7 wrecks-have had it fixed everytime–I won’t give it up!

  13. This one didn’t come soon enough! My 2000 Celica just got totaled and all I want to buy is another Celica!! Too bad I can’t wait a whole nother year to buy a car otherwise I would just wait for this one!! I am going to get another Celica and probably just buy this one when it comes out!!

  14. I have a 1998 Celica Convertible that has 68,000 miles. Love my car but I only drive in when it isn’t raining or too hot. I’m hoping it will be a classic someday. I’m excited about the new car because it will be all wheel drive. I was hoping the merge would bring a Toyota with a sporty 4 wheel drive.

  15. In October I reluctantly traded in my 2001 Celica (with 110,000 miles on it) for a 2010 Prius. At the time I was very ambivalent about getting rid of the Celica even though it was time. I would have given anything to be able to buy a new Celica instead, but obviously now take some consolation in the purchase of the Prius, due to rising prices at the pump.
I do like my Prius, but I still miss my Celica and have to sigh with longing when I see one on the road. It was sharp-looking, handled well and was so much fun to drive. I am THRILLED to know that it will be available again very soon, although I’m disappointed that the article says it will only have rear wheel drive. My 5 speed transmission combined with front wheel drive and a low center of gravity gave me great confidence in the worst driving conditions! I hope they reconsider and build it with 4 wheel drive or at least front wheel drive. BTW, I’m a 58 year old woman!

  16. bring back the supra instead

  17. I bet you when this car put on the US market, it will be no less then $25k. It’s still a good price for the style, but read carefully, it’s not design for long distance drive. It’s a nice looking car and it for show. It’s not worthy. If you are too tall or have a few extra pound, I feel bad for. You better lose some weighs before buy it when it come on the US market. I have wait too long for Toyota sport cars, since the Supra discontinue, Celica is not enough for me. The new Celica with 300 horses powers will be great. I don’t think it comparable to my G37 convertible. It was fun…………..

  18. Supra is running in Japan. Bring it to the US will be great. It probably will have 500 horses plus. I heard it will not pass US 50 states emission test, that’s why it not here. True or not, I don’t know exactly.

  19. For 25k I need a car that can drive short and long distances. The car does look nice and I love the design. If I had the money to throw away, I would buy one.

  20. I cannot wait for this car to come out! I own an older 1993 celica and I really love it! I’m saving up now so i can get this car once it comes out!

  21. i must have a celica 2012….must i just loooove it..

  22. The arrival of new Supra is being much awaited. It was not expected to have a 5th generation of Supra. First the MKV Supra release in 2005 made the world go crazy, after 05 in 2008, 2010 it was out with new features. and now for 2012 it will make a big news.

  23. This is the best news I’ve heard all year. I drive a 2001 Toyota Celica. I bought it last year, but ever since the Y2K Celica’s came out, I knew that they were the car for me. This is definitely going to be in my driveway come 2012.

  24. I have 2003 gts with the high fin and full sports package, I love it, I call it my “Road Rocket”. Only has 40,000 actual miles on it-(it’s babied)..Can’t wait for the new 2012 hopefully it’s has a lot of oooph!

  25. My first car was a 1994 Celica and then traded up to a 2001 Celica before I was t-boned in it. I cannot WAIT for this car…already saving for it!

  26. I HAVE OWNED 3 CELICAS, I NOW DRIVER THE 2003 GT, CAN’T WAIT FOR THE 2012…

  27. I was originally excited for the 2012 Supra, but disappointed that it got pulled from the 2012 line. The concept was gorgeous. I’m anxious to see how this Celica runs, and will probably test drive it, but I honestly prefer the 1999-2001 model, with spoilers. The sloped-back is just too much for a sports car and I hope the two extra seats are optional, even though it’s still under 2500 lbs. Still wish the 2001 model had the 6-speed manual transmission option that the 2012 has, though.
