Ford is offering a few new cars for 2009. They are bringing back the Mustang unchanged from the last couple of years, and offering the Ford Flex. Despite trouble the Ford Company is seeing right now they are still going to offer their new cars. They also have plans for releasing other options in 2010 and 2011.
The Ford Flex is more of a luxury crossover than an SUV. The Ford Flex can seat up to 7 individuals and is expected to get 24 miles per gallon on the highway. As a crossover vehicle it has the SUV chassis, but doesn’t have the power for off road drives an SUV has. It is also a very long vehicle. It looks more like an SUV limo than a regular vehicle.
Before we get into the Ford Flex’s engine we should mention it has a great deal of storage space. The Limo design inside and out offers fold flat seats to help you carry more luggage or other objects. It has a vista roof and fridge option for the back if you wish. Standard options are the noise reduction and being lower to the ground than an SUV. It makes it a lot easier to get into the vehicle. Also inside you have the SYNC technology, with navigation, Sony audio system, DVD, and mood lighting.
The Ford Flex comes with all the standard safety features you could need, plus a few more. It has intelligent all wheel drive meaning it knows when to stop and has the electric braking system. It also comes with the reverse camera aids to help for parking or backing up.
Now that you know luxury is available in the Ford Flex let’s take a look at the engine specifications. It comes in a front wheel or all wheel drive option. You have a 3.5 liter V6 Duratec engine. The transmission is automatic with 6 speeds. For horsepower you can expect 262 @ 6,250. The torque is rated at 248 @ 4,500. It has direct valve lifters and a catalytic converter. The entire engine is made out of cast aluminum to make the vehicle lighter.
The Ford Flex is still a five door vehicle, due to the hatchback. Despite the three rows of seats inside you still have to work your way to the back to enjoy the comfort offered. The first and second rows of seats come with heated options, but the back row does not.
Overall the Ford Flex is definitely a family luxury vehicle. If you want compact and better gas mileage the Ford Focus in 2009 is your better option. Otherwise the Ford Flex has a purpose to fulfill for large families or families who like to camp.
The Ford Flex reminds me of the old Station Wagon of yesteryear.
