Dodge is bringing an oldie but a goodie back with the 2009 Dodge Challenger. In the 60’s and 70’s Dodge offered a Challenger for a muscle car. Dodge had such success with the muscle car in the earlier days they decided a new model with technology and power should be offered.
The first thing you will have to decide is the engine. You have a couple of choices in engine size. One engine is the V6 in the SE model. The second option is the 5.7 liter V8 in the SRT 8 model. The SRT model offers 425 horsepower. The 2009 vehicle was first announced in February of 2008 at the Chicago Motor Show.
Perhaps one of the reasons Dodge decided to bring this model back has to do with Ford. The new Ford Mustang is also from the past, and that means Dodge needs to keep up. The downside to bringing the Challenger back is the price. They will be offering the Challenger for 40,000 USD. Of course you still get the beautiful looks, leather seats, and power. The Challenger is supposed be better for gas mileage as well, but with the engine you might not find it that good.
To further add to the Challenger you have a six speed manual transmission. It helps with the fuel efficiency, as well as making it a more powerful sport like vehicle. Automatic transmissions for most don’t belong in muscle cars.
The Challenger has the MyGig entertainment options. This means a navigation option with Bluetooth, keyless start, as well as remote start. If the new technology is not enough, you also have updated safety. It offers anti lock brakes, power steering, brake assist, airbags on both side and front, and stabilization options.
The interior is going to be all leather for the seats, steering wheel and gear shift. The gages are in the old style. They fit in their own dash area by the steering wheel instead of going the entire length of the dash. You have plenty of cup holders and arm rests for comfort.
The design of the Challenger has not changed. It will still have the square look with low hood and small grill. It is going to be made from fiberglass though instead of metal. The SE does have differences like a smaller grill, and wheels. It also doesn’t have the spoiler that the RT offers. As an old concept in a new era the Challenger is definitely worth a look.
