The Dream of Ratan Tata, Tata Nano the world’s Cheapest Car Launched
Posted by admin on 24 Mar 2009

The dream of the world’s cheapest car has come true for Ratan Tata. Nano has finally rolled out for all eyes to see. This is the day many have been waiting for – a car within their affordable reach – a cheap car that would provide them comfort.
“The promise is kept” said Ratan Tata, Chairman of the Tata Group while he was announcing the arrival of the factory price Rs.1 lakh car (around $2500), Nano in Pantnagar (Uttarakhand). It will be here that the car will be manufactured, till the shift is made to Gujarat plant at a later period.
The launching of the car was a modest affair due to its pricing, which was held at Parsi Gymkhana on the Marine Drive in Southern Mumbai. The belief that kept Ratan Tata going to come out with such a car was “whatever you undertake, if you pursue, you will make it.”
The bookings for the Nano car will be open from April 9 to 25th. It will be made available in three types having a top-end model having features such as air-conditioning, front power windows and central locking.
The showroom cost ( factory cost as well VAT and other transportation charges), the standard or base version will cost Rs.1.34 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai), the middle version (CX) Rs.1.6 lakh and the top-end (LX) will be about Rs.1.85 lakh. In Delhi, the respective tags will turn out to be about Rs. 1.23 lakh, Rs.1.48 lakh and Rs.1.72 lakh. It was more expensive in Mumbai because of the higher cost of transportation charges. Added to this whosever wins the lottery will have to pay the registration charges ( which differs from state to state) and insurance cost ( about 4%) over as well as above this cost.
The booking amount with regard to the three variants will be about Rs. 95,000 allotted for the base variant, Rs.1.2 lakh for the middle and about Rs.1.4 lakh for the top-end model. Deliveries, of course, begin only in July. One can ride the car then only.
Ratan Tata is on the top of the world. He has been able to keep his promise to come up with a car which many could afford to purchase.
