Next generation BMW 5 Series is due in 2009 but spy photographs have already appeared on web with some spied information too. It is said that 2009 5 BMW Series will have wider, longer and will move away from the polarizing design of the current model i.e “less provocative” styling.
2009 BMW 5 Series is currently under development and is expected to have a design far from the current E60. Conventional looking headlights, cleaner front-end, bumpers, grille, taillights, bumper in the rear end and reduced front overhang length are in the cards. This BMW 5 Series will widen the wheelbase by 3 inches which will boost rear seat room. Inside the car will see a new instrument panel and headlight display which is made optional. Length for the future 2009 5 BMW Series will increase by a bit (half inch) and same with width too. The height for the new design will get reduced slightly.
50% quicker torque converter can skip gears with six speed manual gearbox. The future 5 series is expected to use extended variations of existing engines currently in use on BMW lineup. Top priced models will come with 4.8 liter V8 engine with 367 hp and a twin turbo; direct injection 4.4 liter V8 engine with 408 hp. Lower ones will have 3.0 liter 6 with 238 hp and 3.0 liter 6 with 272 hp.
The body materials selected for the 2009 BMW 5 Series cars are more exotic which makes them bit lighter than its previous counterparts but the new add-ons that is going to come with it will certainly makeup for these weight savings. The add-ons include all wheel drive with active torque split, active rear-suspension kinematics, yaw control that enhances stability and the new electronic damper control system.
Will the toned down or “less provocative” design from the extroverted stylist Chris Bangle be able to make their mark. Well….
