2010 Ford Mustang
Posted by admin on 10 Sep 2007
The latest Mustang has been a hit, both with buyers and tuners ever since it arrived, and there are plans to create a facelifted Mustang in mid 2009 for the 2010 model year. The big rumour is that the car will have a new V8 with much more power and torque. This would be the new BOSS engine which will probably be available in two displacements, 5.8 and 6.2 liters. Really that’s what the Mustang needs because cars such as the Camaro and Chrysler challenger will have engines in that class, and the Mustang could be left behind.
The entry level engine choice would be the 3.5 265 horsepower Duratec V6 from the Taurus, although there is a 3.7 liter Duratec V6 being developed for future applications
A wild card is the TwinForce V6 engine that appeared under the hood of the Lincoln MK-R concept car – a twin turbo 3.5 litre V6 that produces up to 400 horsepower. That option seems to be fairly popular around the forums, and while we can’t see it replacing the V8 it could be the basis of a special edition.
The new V8 engine is likely to have cylinder deactivation technology for better fuel economy, and is thought to be a bigger version of the overhead cam modular engine family. Ford has denied that the engine will have cylinder deactivation, but the company is working on such a system in certain engines. Cylinder deactivation shuts down up to half the cylinders in a V8 when the engine is not under load, and both Chrysler and GM have been able to achieve fuel savings using this technology.
With Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards about to be raised, it would be stupid of Ford not to be thinking about fuel saving technologies, especially on relatively high volume sellers like the Mustang.
As far as styling goes, the 2010 Mustang will include many features already seen on the Guigiaro Mustang concept that showed up at the 2006 Los Angeles Motor Show last year. Expect a much more sharp edged but sleek appearance to the car, especially since it’s competing with the extremely edgy new Camaro. A couple of spy pics have surfaced that show the nose of the car being remarkably close in styling to that of the concept. It’s expected that the rear of the car will have more ‘muscular’ shoulders to complement the sharp styling of the front end.
The 2010 Mustang must move in the direction of the new Camaro.
The new Mustang will be the biggest hit ever. Well that is what I heared.
leave it the way it is!!
if we wanted it like the new camaro’s we would buy one of them!!
i want the mustangs to stay the way they are… they are great!
the only thing i would change is to make the interior a little more retro, and to keep upping the mechanical and performance of the cars, but the bodies are awesome now!
Man, i wish there’ll ne a diesel Mustang around. Give me 35 mpg Mustang!
the new mustang better be good-good enough to compete with the camaro. personally, i think base mustangs should come with v8 standard & a v6 as a no cost option
if you had a 8 speed automatic, clean diesel, that would be best for sales,
Forget Ford its all about Chevy… i hear the Camaro coming, better run.
Easy with the redesign Ford. The new Mustang is popular because you guys haven’t designed a good looking car in 40 years. So leave it the #### alone!
Italian design? American pony/sports/muscle car. Italian design? Leave Guigiaro in Italy….please!!
The 2005 Mustang is the best looking car I’ve seen since the muscle car era. They are selling like crazy, so you want to change the design? Isn’t that what got you guys in trouble in the first place (Mustang II)?
Wow the new stang would be sick with the 6.2 partly because thats the right size to keep up with the ls3 from chevy and partly because big ford engines sound SICK… Diesel is not for mustang… duh… also the 6.2 ford would use should put down about 425hp and that would be a SOHC 2v engine a DOCH 4v engine should be able to put out around 600 if tuned properly and all that with the cylinder kill would make mustang the be all se all end all winner of the modern pony race…
The new mustang needs to have more options. Including a hard top convertible option. Forget keeping the prices low, lets get some pricy options added.
A diesel in a Stang would get 40+ Mpg and be an absolute monster on the autocross course.
This still have to be my favorite American built car!!!!
I am not big on American built cars, but the Mustang has always caught my eye, I do like them.
no replacement for displacement, I’ve always been a fan of mustangs I am currently building an 85 GT with a 557 big block and I love the 2010 concept with the raised quarter. Its simple too horsepower sells, look at the damn new tundra if ford puts the 6.2 in the F150s that 425 horse will boost sales and all that power will sell mustangs like crazy, plus the ford cammer engines love boost a 1000horse street car wouldnt be out of the question at a fairly low build cost. Look at the GT500, you can spend another 6k or so for the larger blower and throttle body and get a wicked 798rear wheel horse and that’s out of a 5.4 liter!
I don’t like the new body style it is to much like the camero the mustang has been around forever and has been through alot of changes leave the retro look on it!
Ummmmmmmmmm well i dont like Mustangs, I think they are a waste of money!!!
Chevy is 100% much better and they are the best Dealer ship i will meet from this point and on… Like all a Camaro, i got one and its new and way better, then the (08)Mustang i had, I now got a 2009 Comaro. And who cares about the hp, and all different engines they have that will boost up the power to make it faster…etc. The cars are not for racing, you might thkni it is but all they are for is just to do what everyone one else does Work, and good places that they need to go. Or some like just to have a nice car….. S
WOW !!!!! I love the look. Extremely sexy and very stylish. Ford has finally allowed it’s engineering dept. to be freely creative. What makes the older mustangs so great is that they are not still making them the same. Breaking the mold is what keeps them unique and so special. To each his own, but for me a diesel belongs in a truck. I agree, there is an Italian flavour to this look, but why not? The Italians and Germans have always been known for quality automobiles. North American car companies can only compete on quality. I would definetly love to own one of these. Congradulations Ford and please continue.
