What is hybrid car ? How Hybrid car works ?
The conventional cars uses gasoline as its source of power. The electric cars gets their power from batteries. But Hybrid car is one that gets power from two sources. The common example is car running on both gasoline & battery.
Today most of the car manufacterers are going to introduce their models for hybrid car. The common features in a hybrid car are:-
Smaller Engines:-
This smaller engine has enough power to move around in free way but when it is needed th get the car moving uphill it needs extra power which is readily provided by the electric motar and the battery thus not affecting the performance of the car.
Engine shutoff:-
Whe car takes brake or reaches a red light the engines run by gasoline shuts down and power is supplied by the electri motor and battery.
Efficiency:-
The efficiency of the hybrid cars is achieved by>>
# Recovering energy and storing it in the battery
# Engine shut off at redlight and when car pauses for a while.
# Using advanced aerodynamics to reduce drag
# Using low-rolling resistance tires
# Using lightweight materials for making body of car.
Some facts, myths about hybrid cars.
** Batteries of hybrid cars are recharged by the car only. Whenever the car slows down from top speed, energy is lost in conventional cars, where as in hybrid cars this energy is utilized in charging batteries.
** City driving gives better mileage for hybrid cars due to regular stop and start phenomenon of driving
** Hybrid restarts the engine whenever brake pedal is released.
** Air conditions, wipers all runs same as in conventional cars.
** Light engine, light body is used but the car is very stable.
** Driver never know when the car is switching over from gasoline to electric power.
Hybrid Cars: an overview
Hybrid cars: An Overview
A hybrid car also known as hybrid electric car gets its energy batteries and internal combustion engine which drives generator to generate electricity to charge the batteries and can also drive the car independently.
A hybrid car is one, which gets its energy to drive the car from more then one power source. This is generally a internal combustion engine and an electric motor. Hybrid car runs with internal combustion engine and whenever more power is required the alternative motor comes for assistance. The main advantages of hybrid cars are: -
· The vehicle is lighter and roomier.
· It has more room then electric vehicles as less number of batteries are needed.
· The engine for hybrid vehicle is lighter as less power is needed for acceleration.
· Regenerative braking: Brakes could capture kinetic energy, which is wasted in conventional vehicles, which in turn is used to recharge batteries.
· CVT
A brief History:
Ferdinand Porsche was the first to introduce the concept of hybrid cars. Since then no commercial production happened and hybrid cars were further enhanced as hobby only till 20th century when production by a major manufacturer started.
Hybrid technology got a boost in 90s when Honda Insight and Toyota Prius were commercially available.
