2010 Cadillac CTS Sports Wagon

Station wagons have come a long way in the past two decades. They used to be only driven by parents too worried about what trouble their kids were getting into in the back seat to bother with looking cool. Wagons were long, they were usually boxy, and most looked like somebody had just spliced an extra row of seats onto the back of a regular sedan. Well, a look around today's auto market will show that the wagon can definitely be cool. Case in point is the new 2010 Cadillac CTS Sports Wagon. Based off of the highly successful CTS Sedan, the Sports Wagon is the kind of car that looks good and drives great. The extra cargo room (or kid room) is just incidental.

Long No Longer
Here's a new one: the wagon version of a sedan is actually shorter than the sedan it-self. That's right, the CTS Sports wagon measures in at 0.7 inches shorter in overall length than the CTS Sedan. That means that the frame and suspension already finely tuned for the sedan won't be unduly stressed by a longer body, like most sedan-turned-wagon models are. As for power, the V6s that powered the CTS Sedan are making the transition, and due to similar weights in the vehicles, expect gas mileage ratings to be near identical for the sedan and wagon models. A 2.9 liter turbo-diesel six cylinder engine is currently planned for European and Asian markets, but is not slated for U.S. release as of yet. However, should demand be high enough, expect a diesel version of the car to see American shores by the 2011 model year. Also, all models have the option of all-wheel drive. The CTS's handling is already impressive, but for those living in areas that have bad road conditions during the winter, the al-wheel drive option is definitely alluring. Standard models will feature rear wheel drive.

Is It Worth It?
The market for wagons has grown quite a bit in the past few years, and the CTS Sports Wagon is definitely going to be a welcome addition. By combining the best features of the CTS sedan with more cargo room, the CTS Sports Wagon is sure to be a big seller right out of the gate. Also, as an added incentive, Cadillac is very good at designing bold, good-looking cars, and the CTS wagon is no exception. Its not every day that a wagon will turn heads as you drive down the road, but the CTS Sports Wagon will do just that.
